More about Simply Social Dance

Cathy van der Nest founded the school because she believes absolutely everybody should be able to dance.

Simply Social Dance is a social dance school, open to everybody — hence the name. Based in Benoni, we can teach you from scratch, even if you consider yourself to have two left feet. It’s always an exciting journey with loads of benefits and even more fun.

We offer Ballroom and Latin American, Line Dancing, Wedding Dance Lessons, Ballet, Modern Jive, kids classes and more. Simply Social Dance is a registered member of SADTA.

FAQ

What do I wear?

Anything casual and comfortable.

What do I bring?

Water and a towel depending on the season — and a notebook and pen to write down the steps you learnt.

Do I need a partner?

Not for private lessons. For group Ballroom and Latin it is best to have a partner. For Ceroc Modern Jive, no partners are needed — classes are rotational.

Wedding shoes?

Not essential for every lesson — similar shoes are fine. Bring wedding shoes to the second-last lesson and practise walking in them at home.

How long to learn?

Wedding dances: 4–6 weeks recommended. Group classes: about 6 months for the basics of the listed dances.

What styles do you teach?

Ballroom: Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz. Latin: Cha Cha, Cuban Rhumba, Square Rhumba, Mambo, Samba. Plus Ceroc Modern Jive, Line Dancing, Ballet, Hip Hop and more.

Children?

Yes — as long as your child is willing to learn. Ballet and Contemporary start from as young as 3 years.

How old is too old for line dancing?

Never! Ladies well over 80 still love line dancing. All ages welcome.
